Police are in the remote reaches of the southern Corozal District tonight looking for the cargo from a drug jet. Police reports are that it landed late last night, close to midnight. But this footage was captured at 1:49 am this morning in San Pedro Town and shows a plane flying low overhead with visible navigation lights.
Police have refused to release information until Monday when their personnel is out of the area - but here is what we know so far from unofficial sources.
This morning at 7:30, police got a report that a drug jet had landed at Camp 33, Little Belize, in the Corozal District.
Police scrambled out there and saw a half burned white jet about 20 feet away from the feeder road.
Their reports say that the plane landed their around 11:30 last night and the pilot lost control and veered off the feeder road, damaging the front end of the jet.
That's when three pickups allegedly swooped in and unloaded a cargo from the aircraft unto the pickups, which sped off towards Corozal or Orange Walk.
And that's what has police out there tonight - scouring the area looking for where these drug runners may have headed, or where they may have deposited their cargo.
These searches are standard but very rarely turn up anything.
