PM: Crime May Be Bad, But It Could Be Worse
posted (April 16, 2024)
But, not surprisingly the PM has a totally different take. Like the police minister, he also agrees that the SOE was necessary to prevent the escalation of gang violence. He even added that a marijuana legislation could go even further in stopping the war on the city streets.

But he also said that we should count our blessings, because while we may be dealing with gang and drug related murders, as well as murders borne out of jealousy, at least we don't have to worry about school shootings.

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I think that overall, we have had major success when it comes to crime, crime has gone down generally but you can't have young people, stopping them from shooting one another for whatever reason, the police can't be on every street corner and a lot of this is gang related supposedly, so the best thing we can do at that time is declare an SOE, so we could just grab these young men and hold them in jail for a 30 day period so everybody calms down and realize, okay, guys, this is not the way to go and as much as we want to work with them, as much as we want them to go out and find a job, some of them don't want to work and for them it's easier to have a life of crime or be able to sell drugs or whatever and we want to get them out of it and I believe, and this is something that the churches don't look at, if we can legalize marijuana, we could reduce a lot of these issues over drugs, because they fight over turf, but if it is legalize then you remove it from the criminals and you make it legal under strict controls, obviously, and then government can collect high taxes because it's supposed to be highly taxable so that could be able to help. That is one aspect of it, but secondly, crimes of passion. That is what is going on right now. And it's a mental health issue that, and again, how do you address that matter with mental health, how do you know that, okay I will trip because my wife or my girlfriend leaves me or whatever, these are some things that are happening. But when you look at it overall, just in Australia not too long ago, a man went into a mall and began stabbing people. In the United States, God forbid, almost every week you hear about shooting in schools, thank God and knock on wood, we are not there, so we need to count our blessings."
