UDP Leader Endorsed Again
posted (April 16, 2024)
And while we expect the issue of P Diddy's past may continue to be deployed as a political bogeyman well into 2025, Shyne Barrow says his position as leader of the UDP is rock solid and invulnerable to attack.

This after a resolution by the National Party Council to once again endorse Barrow and his Leadership Executive until the after the next General Elections.

At the same time, the NPC dropped a resolution to remove John Saldivar and Denny Grijalva as standard bearers.

It was seen as a quid pro quo in order to quell a rebellion from Saldivar's Caucus For Change. But today Barrow rejected that narrative in favor of one built around that elusive goal of party unity:

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"I believe once I enjoy the majority support, once the leadership executive enjoys the majority support, to me, that is better than trying to remove anyone."

"Then when the motion comes forward that we affirm our commitment to what the national convention said, which is that there will be no more conventions, there would be no recall, there would be nothing. We have one leader we're going to the general elections with our leader, and the leader enjoys the confidence. I don't want to tell you how much people objected to that. AndI don't want to tell you who. But I think you can guess. That was the opportunity. If I didn't enjoy the confidence of colleagues, for everybody to say, no, no, no, no, no, we don't know about that. I don't agree to that. A clear supermajority that does not want to engage in any negativity, period. That means removing any one and certainly going after the leader."

Jules Vasquez
"As a part of the peace going forward..."

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"The unity!"

Jules Vasquez
"Are you still paying members of the Caucus for Change 1500 dollars a month as a retainer to keep the peace?"

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"There is just one party. So we're moving forward with one party."

Jules Vasquez
"You now no longer acknowledge the caucus for a change?"

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"We are moving forward with one party. We have agreed to move forward as one party. And I continue to invest in constituencies, all the constituencies."
