Hope Still Floats At Proposed Cruise Ports
posted (April 16, 2024)
And what about the cruise industry? Is all hope for the Belize District lost with Stake Bank in receivership, Port Magical's scandalous definitive agreement torn up, and the Port of Belize's multiple EIA rejections?

The PM says he still has hope that one of them will come to fruition, and he believes we'll find out in the coming months.

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I still believe that there's an opportunity to open a port. What's going on at the Port of Belize, with Stake Bank, it's quite unfortunate, and somebody didn't do their homework properly but that has to be sorted out and it will be sorted out and central bank has assured me that the depositors will not lose their money so that's secure. Now, Port Magical has been having some issues because we would have hoped when we met with Royal Caribbean in October, we told them three months to be able to make a decision whether they will come on board or not and so far they have not come. Now, people own Port of Belize and now so Carnival has been looking around seeing the potential in either investing with Royal Caribbean and Port Magical or maybe looking at Port of Belize but I believe in the next few months, that somehow one way or the other that's going to be sorted out."
