Last night you heard Minister Julius Espat on the news venting about party matters and questioning whether divisional challenges will be allowed.
He called it cherry picking:
Julius Espat, Minister - MIDH
"The People's United Party has rules and conventions are not open. Today.we are having a meeting at 2:00 to decide if conventions will be open or not. I want to see the cherry picking. I really want to see it."
Well, the PUP national executive did meet yesterday and they did agree to allow conventions - in all decisions except Toledo East. For the other 30 constituencies, prospective standard bearers can apply starting today - right up to May 24th. That will trigger its own kind of silly season inside the PUP - where a few current area reps are expected to face stiff challenges at conventions. Most will be endorsed - but that decision will be made after May 24 when the application window closes.
And so what about Toledo East - where the seat is now vacant and a by-elections has been triggered?
Well, the party decided to make no public discussion of that seat for 7 days and a decision regarding that constituency will be announced next Friday.
