But Peyrefitte didn't need any leaks for the next concern he spoke about because it's not exactly a secret. He criticized the top cops who own private enterprises as a side gig, saying it could easily blur the lines between their public jobs as police officers and potential corrupt dealings that happen on the side. The ComPol - who has a very public car dealership - stated that once the officer is transparent, he doesn't see anything wrong with it.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Honestly if a person wants to venture into a business that is going to be honest and transparent then there is nothing wrong with it. I could have opened a law firm and have a law firm running while I'm Commissioner of Police."
Jules Vasquez:
"But that would be such a conflict though."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Thank you very much. That would certainly be a great conflict of interest, so I will not do that. When UDP was in power and you know this too Jules. There was a deputy commissioner of police who owned and operated a security company. You know this. A security company, I believe there is a huge conflict there to have a security company and to be the Commissioner of Police. Nothing was said about that deputy commissioner who owned a security company and at that particular time, the deputy commissioner had control of dangerous goods that deals with hiring and giving license to security guard, and you know what happened there, I'm not going to say. Now, while Peyrefitte was office, he had a law firm right?"
Jules Vasquez:
"He said he renounced his shares."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"He had a law firm and I will tell you again to do the studies, find out which law firm wrote the Portico agreement. These are things that you must be real about. You can't be throwing stones when you live in a glass house. Because you're in a position now, you stand at a certain distance and you just look and criticize everything and find faults in everything forgetting that you were there, you tend to have amnesia. And I will leave it at that, they had a press conference yesterday, they could have used the opportunity to focus on real issues but instead they want to focus on me? I'm not running again anybody, why me? I am just one ordinary man. When you see me outside of uniform, I wear short pants, slippers and a T-shirt."
